Maddalam Makers
It is said that music has no language. Music transcends time and space carrying the listener through the ups and downs of the notes and beats. Behind these amazing tones and vibrations are the hands of some skilled craftsmen who remain mostly unknown to us. This part of the journey of PeopleStoryCollective is to speak with some such craftsmen from the interior part of Palakkad district, Kerala. There are only a few families remaining who have been practising the craft of making percussion instruments used in various musical forms of south Indian music like Maddalam, Chenda, Mridangam, Thimila and Edakka. Mr.Raghavan and Ms.Geetha speak passionately about their experiences in the field of instrument making.
